Stash Report Week #26

After spending the weekend driving to and from Colorado to see my niece baptized (and finding a quilt shop on google maps definitely does NOT exist - I was laughed at for asking... then finding another quilt shop closed at 4 and I wasn't able to arrive until 4:36) I still managed to buy some fabric. First, I bought 5 yards of muslin for projects (I'm all out of muslin except for a piece needed for the sampler quilt). Then, in Thornton, I went to Tomorrow's Heirlooms. It took a long time to find it (it had moved to a new location, but nobody could remember how to get there in the first 5 stores DH visited). I bought a 1/2 yard piece of fairy frost in turquoises for me, 1/4 yard of fairy frost in pink for the Assistant, and 1/4 yard of red batik for the Screamer.

On that note, the Screamer has nearly potty trained herself. It's awesome. Can't say the same for the Assistant, who made two visits to Minor Emergency this week, once for a swallowed hair pin that has yet to pass and another for a staph-infected batch of poison ivy rashes.

IN this week: 6 yards
IN YTD: 96 1/4 yards

OUT this week: 0 yards
OUT YTD: 136 yards

YTD Total: 39 3/4 yards OUT

While I moved backwards in my totals this week, I am still at 80% of my goal for the year. I have had an order put in by my sister for a curtain for my neice's room. The morning sun is BRIGHT in her room.

Stash Report Week #25

This week, Q and I attended another week of training for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. That means my progress on most projects was virtually nil. I did manage to finish piecing the backing for my braid quilt, and begin piecing a backing for my triangle scraps. Yesterday, while everyone was sleeping, and then when they woke, I finished cutting the Assistant's pinks for her own quilt. Now to piece it!

Still, since I offered to give away my scraps last week, I had a great bust, I estimate at 15 yards mailed away! Isabel agreed to take my scraps, so they should arrive at her door any day. I sent her all my 2.5", 2", 1.5", and 1" scraps, along with some other prints I picked up at the garage sale this spring but never did manage to think of a way I would EVER use them. She can throw out anything she doesn't like...

I also threw out some bits and pieces that I kept saying I would use, offcuts or funny triangles, etc. The pile kept growing, and I wasn't using it, so I estimate a yard out for that.

My mom and sister visited Hutchinson with my nephew before my poor nephew had to have hand surgery (another story for another time). They found a quilt shop and bought me two pieces of fabric. We'll call it 1/2 yard in, although it was 1/4 and 1/3, as I figure I could have sent Isabel more than 15 yards, and we'll just not count that extra 1/6 yard in.

IN this week 1/2 yard
IN YTD: 90 1/4 yards

OUT this week: 16 yards
OUT YTD: 136 yards

YTD Total: 45 3/4 yards OUT!

I'm less than 5 yards away from my goal for the year, but I know I have a bit of muslin I need to purchase eventually. Let's see if I can get a quilt basted this week!

Stash Report Week #24

Check out Q's hair!
IN this week: 0 yards
IN YTD: 89 3/4 yards

OUT this week 1 yard
OUT YTD: 120 yards

YTD Total: 30 1/4 yards OUT!
Nuggette has been home for almost a week now and is doing well. She weighs over 5 pounds, and she and her parents just moved to a two bedroom apartment. I finished this little dress last Sunday to send with my mom. I apologize for the sideways view, but I'm having trouble with rotating pictures.

Do you want some scraps? I have 1", 1.5", 2", and 2.5" strips of varying lengths. Soon I will be packing up some of my quilting and sewing things to rearrange our house, and I should purge while I'm at it. If you're interested, please let me know! (It would help my stash numbers!)

Every time I think I'm down...

... God reminds me that there are others worse off.

Today, I took Q in for his 2 month shots. He weighs a whopping 15 pounds! Shots were shots, until he woke up at 1:30 this afternoon. After eating and taking acetaminophen, he began crying and cried for the better part of the next two hours. But I have to share the stories of the rest of my family. I've got nothin' on them.

My sister-in-law was at the house trying to finish her laundry. She lives in a two-bedroom apartment with my brother and their two girls (Midget and Midget II) with no good laundry available to them. She had been doing laundry at my parents' house on Monday, but due to complicated circumstances (beyond her control) she wasn't able to finish. She intended to finish today, but my other brother, who still lives at my parents' house, forgot that she was coming over and didn't tell anyone to leave the door unlocked. So the poor thing showed up at my parents' house and couldn't get her laundry out of the house. So she came over to our house to finish, and of course we then have a screaming baby for her to listen to.

I can do one better. Then my mom called. She was in Colorado to welcome Nuggette home (WELCOME HOME, NUGGETTE), and took my nephew with her as his parents both had major things going on this week and needed sitting help. He would have stayed at my house, but he has Asbergers, and my three children can be a bit much for him. He tries, but the Assistant can be less than orderly and pesters him incessantly. Back to my mom: my nephew threw up. So of course she is feeling horrible, thinking that she may have exposed Nuggette to a virus through my nephew. We hope it's only stress and homesickness, but my sister will be making the drive tomorrow after her conference is over to bring him home. That's about 16 hours of driving.

I thank God all I had was a screaming baby. At least Q likes to sit in the water (that stopped the crying, finally). I love my life.

Stash Report Week #23

Hurrah! A finish!

It was a busy week in the room of Zana's Ninis. First, DH's dad and step-mom came with his two brothers to visit for a few days. Then the Screamer started having puss-like crud weeping from her eye (allergies, thank goodness).

Then we went to see a friend ordained to the priesthood, which was very amazing and wonderful. In the process, we made our first longish roadtrip with 3 kids and only had to stop to allow DH to go the bathroom. There are no complaints from me, however, as DH did all the driving.

I had one small piece of border to finish quilting, then the binding, and I made it! This twin-sized quilt is entirely from scraps and stash (even the backing is pieced of several cream or white fabrics). I'm relieved to have it completed, as I need it at the end of June for a gift. I estimate this took 8 1/4 yards.

I also worked on a preemie dress for my niece Nuggette (who might get to come home Monday!), but it's not quite finished. I might try to finish it today so my mom can take it to Colorado when she leaves.

I was tempted to shop, but resisted the urge. Instead, I made a list of projects in the works or that I would like to work on, along with whether or not I have all the materials. I need to finish some of these projects first!

IN this week: 0 yards
IN YTD: 89 3/4 yards

OUT this week 8 1/4 yards
OUT YTD: 119 yards

YTD Total: 29 1/4 yards OUT!

Only 21 yards to go to meet my goal for the year... or more, when I finally go shopping!
