New Fabric

It's been a while since I took pictures of any of my new fabrics, so here are a few from the last month, plus a Christmas gift from friends.

My prize for my Scraps to Treasures quilt...

My Christmas gift...

From our latest quilt guild meeting, fabrics others were giving away...

(and the heart fabric for my daughter.  I think we'll make an apron.

Blocks 60-66

7 basket weave blocks, 6 1/2" unfinished, for a baby quilt.  I definitely didn't pick fabrics with enough contrast, but I think it will still make a lovely quilt.  I started these Thursday when I realized I would finish the week without any blocks if I didn't do something fast!

State of My Stash

It's been a while since I've discussed stash totals, but Sunday stash reports are out for me this year, as I'm giving up the internet and sewing machine on Sundays.  Otherwise, I find myself trying to squeeze in as much machine time and internet as I can while DH is home.  I'd prefer Sunday to be the day I spend extra time with my kids, and enjoy the Celtic music on NPR from 3-5 pm!  Also, I hand quilt or hand piece, which otherwise I put off.

IN this week: 0 yards
IN YTD: 29 1/2 yards

OUT this week: 0 yards
OUT YTD: 17 3/4 yards

YTD Total: 11 3/4 yards IN

In 2011, I had over 27 yards in.

In 2010, I had 5 yards out.  That was the year of the baby quilt race, all to be finished before Bear Cub Q arrived in April.

In 2009, I had 47 1/2 yards in.  YIKES!

I'd say, in general, I'm doing better... less shopping.

Today, I took a mental health day of sorts.  I still had my volunteering, but instead of racing to clean the house (house goes on the market in less than a month!), packing boxes (did I mention the house going on the market soon?), or packing for a trip, I decided to sit down at my newly-moved sewing machine and SEW.  I had sewn ZERO blocks for my 350 blocks challenge, and how embarrassing would that be to admit on Monday?  Six blocks down, one to go... tomorrow morning!

I forget how much time cleaning takes, and then I remember why my house is never as clean day-to-day as I keep it when it's on the market... it becomes a sickness, and I'd rather have fun with my kids than be bleaching the grout with a toothbrush and bleach or detail cleaning the brass that tarnishes in two days!

Now a few more minutes of hand quilting before bed!

Finish it up Friday

Baby sized bargello quilt...
Full of mismatched seams
Not square
a learning quilt, if you will.
It looks much prettier in pictures, but I do like the stripe
Originally purchased for a quilt for my DH
He doesn't really like quilts on the bed, though,
so I made it for a friend of his who had a baby!

Todder-sized cowgirl skirt
(Interested?  Leave a comment...
I make custom skirts!)

New pillow for my front porch
18" square
It matches my trim!
My first wonky, free-pieced sort of thing
(I'm too much of an aspie to be brave enough to do this too often!)

Why did winter wait until February?

Can I help you with that snow on your head?
Hugs!

Don't tell Q that boys don't wear florals... Hand-me-downs are what they are, you know?

Blocks 32-49

three string blocks  (one of which I incorrectly trimmed 1/2 short... does it still count?)

five 4-patches

one completed bargello quilt...  How do you count blocks for that?  I counted three strips as a block, as this only finishes to about 42" square (ahem... not square).  Therefore, nine more blocks...

I will write more about all my flaws in this quilt by Friday, but that's another post.

Finish it up Friday

A Valentine-y, sweet sort of finish this week.  Not for my valentine, but for a friend.  The tutorial is found on Sew Mama Sew.

Mine is, ahem, less than perfect, but a good first.  I could see making an entire series of these.  My oldest daughter wakes up early on days I have to be gone in order to make sure I left her a letter.  With her own envelope, how could I forget?

Things...

Why is it that, even after a blogger template site deletes their image, you can't delete their logo from your blog without WAY TOO MUCH WORK?  (Don't worry, I figured it out.)

I need a free day.  No errands, funerals, or appointments.

Parents should take care of their kids.

More positive things...

The Assistant sings herself to sleep when she's worried.  It's so sweet.

It SNOWED today!  Nothing stuck, but we need moisture!

Quilt guild is Saturday!

I still haven't turned on my dryer this year.

Blocks 25-31

Six ironed, one not
Better than nothing, oui?

After a funeral on Monday involving 12 hours in the car, it was full steam ahead into a full week... including 51 boxes now packed.

Maybe this week, despite a screaming visit to the dentist for Screamer (surprised?) today and a funeral tomorrow and a Valentine's cookie party on Friday, maybe I'll get a few extras done.

I can dream, can't it?
