Hat Sale

Because I have multitasked too many other ways this week, I neglected to note...

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of my etsy shop, Zana's Ninis, and therefore, my small business.  (N.B. VERY small business).

In honor of my business anniversary, and the fact that it has been running debt free for four months, I am hosting a sale via my facebook page.  ALL hats remaining from 2011 are on sale for only $10 (not including sales tax for Kansas residents and $5 shipping).  That's 30-60% off the regular price, but it's spring, and I'm ready to make more hats.  I need the space to store them, so if you're interested, go visit and buy a hat!

And thank you to my beautiful sister Alzbe, who started the whole "I could open a business" idea and has supported me through it!

Vest!

Four Easter garments down, one to go!

This week I finished my husband-sized vest.  It is dramatically better than last year's (it's not two-sizes too big.  What I don't know about men's garment construction is... nearly everything!)  Already done are a Bear Cub Q-sized vest, a Screamer dress, and a me-skirt.  Left?  The darling Assistant's dress.

The colors are, probably to many, very dark for an Easter dress.  Here's the deal, though... I can't do floral because I can't as DH to wear that, and I don't wear many floral prints.  Pastels are equally hard for the men, and most prints have flowers.  Dark?  Dark is easy, and it doesn't show the dirt the Screamer will have all over her dress when she wears it straight out of the laundry basket over and over and over... spring, summer, fall, and winter.  Yep, that girl likes her dresses!

I have a week to sew up the last dress, but since I cut it last night, I should be safe... As long as the creepy creeping crud that has taken over Screamer doesn't take me over too.  Maybe I should go sew before it does!

I also completed the blocks for a quilt I need to present May 5.  There's lots of sashing yet to follow, but the blocks are done.  I had a helper laying them out.  He's got a good eye for an almost-two-year old.  Now if I could just teach him not to step on the blocks!

Blocks 94-121

28 blocks this week!

11 baby quilt blocks.  No picture as they are pinned and ready to be sewn together!

3 string blocks.  Here's two of them untrimmed as I haven't pulled out the cutting board yet.

4 blocks of this fabric for a quilt that must be done by May 6.

10 of these blocks for the same quilt (the top border fabric is more accurate).

16 blocks to go on the deadline quilt, a vest due this week, and maybe I'll finish the baby quilt... but it won't count for any more blocks!

For Henrietta

On our detour south!

Spring Break

New sod for the yard.
We ended the morning one roll of sod short.

What should have been a straightforward rewiring and installing a new vent fan in the wall dividing the crawl space under the house from the crawl space turned into a nightmare of...

Water.  That's standing water, not dusty concrete.  Two inches or so, 1600+ gallons, sitting under our porch.  No wonder our basement reeks of humidity at times.

2 days and many hours later (God bless my husband and our friend Steven),
after this picture was taken,
DH dug a hole in the muck for a new sump pump.  How could the previous owners just pop in a fan and call it good?

Life should have cut us some slack at this point, so we packed to head to the family cabin for a few days.  Two hours into the drive, we received a phone call that DH's Nana was dying and we needed to come say goodbye to her.  Given, we were "sorta" on the way to DH's family base of Dallas, but our being in Tulsa added 2 hours to the trip.

No cabin anyway, apparently, as the well has not been repaired.  Nana is still hanging in, but we are all praying for a peaceful death for her, as her status is not one from which one recovers in this life... but we pray for her life to come, as it will be amazing!

Long spring break.  'Nuf said.

Finish it Up Friday

One little boy's vest.

What a lousy week this has been, but that's a story for another time... Let's just say I need a break to recover from this Spring Break.

Thanks, AmandaJean, for hosting.

Blocks 73-93

Two weeks of blocks...  I look forward to hitting 100 blocks!

3 string blocks (of which I took a picture of only two)...

A block for a pillow case (of which I will take a picture when I am done) to match this one.

17 baby quilt blocks, for a total of 31.  Only 11 more to go!  (One is next to my machine so I lay out all my pieces in the correct order!)  I am of the opinion that Idid not sort my colors well enough, as the "weaving" appearance does not show up, but it's still going to be pretty.

Finish it Up Friday

Barely, but done!  After this picture, I added a brown tie around the waist (she loves ties) and a hook and eye at the back.  I'm bad about finishing details, but this one is definitely done!

Thanks to Amanda Jean for hosting!

Stash Report/March's Project

I finished the first piece of my project for March.  Every Easter, I've made the girls matching dresses.  Last year, I expanded to include all of us, so this year, I need to make one skirt, two dresses, and two vests.  Today, I finished the skirt and cut out one of the dresses.  This year's colors are blue and brown.

That's 2 1/4 yards out this week!

Please excuse the blurry picture, but it's hard to take a picture of yourself in a mirror without horrible glare from the flash.  I thought blurry was better than flash taking over!  The side of my skirt has brown inserts.

Blocks 67-72

Of which, although I am positive I took a picture, I have not picture...  More baby quilt blocks this week.

Getting our house ready for a return to the market has sapped my free time and energy.  Lots of yard work, lots of dusting, lots of packing, lots of painting.  Lots of vacuuming.  I think, soon, I'll be to the point where I can sew more!

Stash Report Week #16 and 15 Minutes

The stash report remains unchanged.  I am adding borders and basting a small quilt this week, so I will have a shift in numbers soon. I fin...
