Stash Report Week #26

Gulp.  I've tanked my nice use numbers in the last two weeks.

In the last few weeks: a fat quarter from Vicki Welsh, 6(ish) yards of train fabric from Julie for my train-loving son, and 9 1/2 yards of luscious batiks from a trip to Wisconsin.  Fortunately, I finished a baby quilt to keep my usage numbers increasing!

IN this week: 15 3/4 yards
OUT this week: 4 yards

IN YTD: 43 1/4 yards
OUT YTD: 45 1/2 yards
YTD Total: 1 3/4 yards OUT

I've also finished 12 spools of thread

Rainbow Scrap Challenge: Strips and Squares

The lovely thing about baby quilts is they finish so quickly!  Despite the craziness of the week (lots of activities and horribly hot weather), I basted, quilted, and bound this lovely for my SiL!  I can see one of my grays was a little too light for the backgrounds I chose, but I was trying to use stash and stay in the colors my SiL wanted, so it is what it is, eh?  The quilt finished roughly 48" square, and the triangles were all pieced by the Assistant.  She assembled a few columns, and I finished up for her.  I did the quilting, since she's not really interested in that stage of the game yet, and I bound it.  I was happy to finish up a few loved and not-so-loved fabrics out of the stash in a lovely manner.
Then yesterday, since the above baby quilt was finished and it was too hot to work in the garden, I blasted out these blocks and sashing!  Maybe today they'll become a top, since while cooler, it will still be too hot for this lady outside.  I will, much to my dismay, need to piece a backing for this and am not really sure what I want to do.  I have oodles of fabrics in aqua, it's just which ones will be big enough!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge: Moving Right Along

The baby quilt for my nephew is a top!  It's a good thing he won't care about matching points, as the Assistant's first foray into triangles was a little rough.  I've already pieced the backing, chosn quilting thread colors, and discovered I have the right size of batting scraps to piece that too.  My hope is to begin quilting next week.

I chose a pattern for my scrap-making baby quilt (Nifty Thrifty by Bonnie Hunter).  I thought the Assistant might like to help with this one too, but she's got her own "real" scrap project she's enjoying, and she might as well sew what she enjoys!  She's stitching up my 2.5" squares and bricks and having a ball.  I fortunately had just enough background (which glows in the dark) to use only one for this quilt.  I cut fairly efficiently, time will tell if I actually produce any scraps in this endeavor, but using stash is like using scraps, right?

Finally, the Twinkler Stars are all pieced!  I can tell my cutting still (always) needs some work.  I think I struggle with cutting the strips because I have a smaller cutting board and have to use the coffee table to cut.  Far from ideal.  Anyway, the blocks are done and I'm excited to play with sashing (or no sashing...).  I think now that I've finished all the fiddly triangles, I may start to enjoy them again.

May Block Count

I made 56 Twinkler Stars, 5 columns of a Tshirt quilt, 5 Bits and Bobs blocks, and 6 applique blocks for a total of 72 new blocks in May.

Add that to my previous 220, and I'm now at 292.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge: Change in Plans

I had great plans for my project this month, a lovely quilt called Aegan Seas by Judy Martin.  I ogled over the pattern more than once, saved aside a bag of 2" strips in the perfect colors and... Wait.  2" strips?  Somehow, until Monday, I didn't connect that I needed 1.5" strips and I'd saved my 2" strips.  No, I'm not cutting 1/2" off all my scraps.  So... This quilt is now on a dream list as I start over with the scrap saving for it, and I need a new plan.

First up, I'll be continuing my Twinkler Stars in pink and green, since I have 12 blocks in pieces and only 12 blocks to sew after that, and they do have lime green!

Secondly, the girls are sewing a blue and grey quilt with me, for their newest boy cousin, due in October.  It's a carpenter star, so it's giving the Assistant her first taste of triangles.  At least they're huge!  I enjoying demolishing several pieces of small yardage from my stash to cut this.  This doesn't really fit the color requirements, but I try to do a quilt each summer with the girls, and this is it for 2016.
I do spy the turned triangle, and it's already fixed!
Finally, I'll be using long-coveted hand dyed fabric to make an aquamarine and white baby quilt.  One can always use more baby quilts for gifts, I find!  This is yardage and not scraps, but since I need more scraps, I'm considering it a scrap creating project!

Be sure to check out all the aqua and lime projects this weekend!

June Goals

In May, I wanted to...
1. Work on scraps: trim, applique, Bits and Bobs, and my Twinkler Star in pink and green.  DONE!  I didn't finish all the Twinkler Star blocks, but most of them.

2.  Another commissioned Tshirt quilt.  DONE!

3.  Seven more Odd Fellows blocks.  FAIL.  Never touched them.

Bonus: I did finish a placemat for the newest nephew!

For June, I'm hoping to...
1. Focus on my scraps: trim, applique, Bits and Bobs, finish the Twinklers, and work on a baby quilt in aqua blues.

2.  Work on a baby quilt for my SiL along with the girls.

August Block Count

I thought I wrote this, but it seems to be lost somewhere or I never wrote it at all… August was a quiet block month, with only 42 16-patch...
