Rainbow Scrap Challenge: Beginnings

The bigs made it home from Ireland as scheduled, much to the relief of Miss G (and the rest of us, of course).  She was beginning to think Daddy would never come home and she would pine away with grief.  Between the unpacking, catching up on the farm, and gearing up for school, there wasn't much sewing.

I did sew up the last of my hourglass blocks.  Next month, I may be making a quilt of them!

I also began the machine stitching around my ABC quilt.  Each letter is made from corresponding fabric, such as A is for angels, B is for bricks.  I have several sets of these letters cut and decided I need to sew up another to use up a bit more of the lingering fabric.

The big work of the week was webbing my Bits and Bobs quilt.  See the lovely pile of it down below?  It's time consuming and dangerous work to pin each row.  The pins want to fall out; PK wants to help; it's a pokey business.

Oh, and the ironing.  I MUST clean off my ironing board this weekend so I can press the rows as I sew.  Otherwise, who wants to press an entire 90" quilt all at once?

Sewing will be scant next week as well.  I have class several days, and we're beginning the week with JoJo being hospitalized for sedation dentistry.  My mommy heart is a little nervous, so please keep us in your prayers!

Be sure to check out the neutrals this weekend!  I don't have many neutrals, but I'm trying to play along.

SUCH a busy week!! You amaze me with all you are able to get done on the sewing machine when you have SO many other responsibilities. I'm glad to hear that the bigs got home safely. Looking forward to some news of their Irish adventure! Believing JoJo is in good hands. Try not to worry.

Hourglass blocks in all those colours look like they should make up into a lovely quilt. I made an alphabet quilt once but as a quilt along and just used whatever scraps of fabric were at hand but I will have to revisit it with appropriate theme fabric some day. Thoughts and prayers going out JoJo's way.

I'll be thinking of you and Jojo this week! Hope all goes well! I have to figure out webbing a quilt - I've read about it in Bonnie Hunter's posts, but don't quite get it from the description. I'm going to try it when my monkey blocks are ready to sew together. It's a sign of good progress that you've gotten your Bits and Bobs to that point!

Pokey business and children. That must be a very bad mix. Hope all goes well and for Jojo too. Of course, I'll pray for both of you. Your OMG quilt looks so awesome. ;^)

The alphabet quilt sounds really interesting. Can't wait to see it. Fingers crossed for your boy! Hope it all turns out okay.

That's a cute idea for the alphabet quilt. Do you have fabric for every letter or will you be on the hunt? Yep, gotta get to the ironing board. I wouldn't want to do that all at once either. Especially, the first pass. You will probably want to press it again before quilting but it is a lot easier to press as you go at this stage. Good luck.

Your Bits and Bobs quilt looks glorious. I remember the little children stage - fondly.

Bits and Bobs is a beautiful pile of color and fun. As tedious as the row stage is, it gets you so much closer to a finished quilt. Best of wishes for the sedation. Hopefully it will be uneventful.

I sure will pray for his dental surgery. And I pray for peace for you in a chaotic time.

Good luck with all your upcoming projects this week - sewing and otherwise!

August Block Count

I thought I wrote this, but it seems to be lost somewhere or I never wrote it at all… August was a quiet block month, with only 42 16-patch...
