Stash Report Week #17

This week I have been busy with Snail's Trail strips (I thought I had a picture, but no go), trimming hundreds of little triangles (again, sorry about no picture), and hand quilting. I have a plan for the BiL baby quilt, which is why I was trimming all the itty-bitty triangles, so I had to buy some yellow for sashing. Of course, with all three kids with me, that involved some shopping for them too... and then I went to buy thread at JoAnn's since it was on sale, and both the Screamer and the Assistant acquired more fabric.

IN this week: 3 yards yards
IN YTD: 87 yards

OUT this week: 0 yards
OUT YTD: 101 3/4 yards

YTD Total: 14 3/4 yards

Slow and steady wins the race, right? I'm battling a possible case of mastitis, so if I get sick, there may be NOTHING accomplished this week, but I'm okay with that. Q will be baptized later today!

Friday!

Q's baptism is this weekend. There's just a minor amount of housecleaning to be done, and I will be going to the grocery store for the first time in a month.

It's been gloriously raining for the better part of two days. The plants should really enjoy the soaking.

I'm currently holding the Assistant, who is holding Q. Ah... I love being a mom.

Messes

An appropriate day for this post, I believe. Last night, DH had a study group at the house, and his step-father stopped by for a visit, so the girls went to bed late. The Screamer kept coming out of her room. The first time she came out, I heard her close the door, but when I went down to return her to her bed, I couldn't find her. I had a minor panic attack, and then discovered her hidden around the corner of the fridge, grinning from ear to ear.

This is the state of my sewing room. Or should I say play room? Either way you name it, this is a disaster. Now, I'm not complaining - merely observing that this is too messy. I don't like things to be this messy, but with pregnancy and baby, I haven't kept up with the girls' toys very well. There are post-it notes everywhere (the remainder of an awesome birthday gift to the Screamer, who adores post-its!).

My best friend came over and made dinner tonight. While she was here, she also helped me clean the room. Doesn't it look so much better?

Of course, what would this post be without a picture of Q. The Screamer is holding Q's hand and giving him kisses. You wouldn't guess from this picture that this morning she lifted him from his Moses basket and promptly laid him on the ground face down. He's going to have to be a tough boy to survive in this house!

Picture Updates

First, the last baby quilt completed before Q was born. I didn't have to buy anything for it. The green came from the fabrics I bought at the garage sale. It was just enough for borders, backing, and binding, which was terrible convenient for me. I was glad not to have to purchase anything.
Then, Q himself. He's such a wonderful baby.
The Assistant on her birthday. Do you think she looks scared or uncomfortable in the second picture? I think she gets nervous when everyone sings to her at once. She loved her pink cake, the blueberries, the strawberries, playing with cousins, coloring books, gardening tools, and anything else I may have forgotten.

Stash Report Week #16

This week, I added an extra ruffle to the bottom of my new wrap skirt, as it was just a little short (I don't like to feel the pew on my bare legs when I sit down). So...

IN this week: 0 yards
IN YTD: 84 yards

OUT this week: 1/2 yard
OUT YTD: 101 3/4 yards

YTD Total: 17 3/4 yards

Slowly working on projects, but Q doesn't like to lay down much, so it may be a while before anything else gets finished. No worries, I'm trying to take my time and rest!

Today is the Assistant's 4th birthday, complete with a pink cake, pink fishing pole, and pink glove for playing catch with Daddy. I'm so blessed to have her in my life

Garden Progress

My tomatoes are trying to outgrow their containers, but with two more weeks until last frost, they are just going to have to wait.

Yesterday, DH planted the newly arrived arctic kiwi and bay leaf plants, as well as a lemon tree that has been on the kitchen counter for a while. The lemon and bay will spend most of their lives inside. There are a few too many turnips coming up (maybe I was too liberal in planting seeds before Q was born?), so I will be able to thin them for turnip greens to have a spinach, dandelion, and turnip salad. Yummy!

Sunflower seeds were planted (not by me) and more barrels of leaves were raked. How is it all the oak trees end up under the roses? Seriously... but again, I wasn't raking. I'm not quite up to that yet. I did transplant some seedlings from the seed starter tray to their own pots. We'll see what survives, as some roots had grown through the holes in the bottom of the tray. Oops. I have a good excuse, though, since it was a baby that slowed me down!

DH also finished unloading a truck load of dirt into the garden bed that originally held 100 saplings. He was a busy man yesterday, God bless him.

Today it's cool and rainy, just right for the seeds we planted yesterday. It's just right for me too, as I don't like the warm weather. It takes me a while to get used to it, and I want to put off the air conditioner until June or July (DH competes with another teacher to see who can wait the longest. Last year we made it to June 6. This year, with a newborn, who knows what will happen!).

Stash Report Week #15

Baby Q was born Tuesday after a long day of refusing to be induced. Whew! However, Monday, before the hospital, I did manage to finish the Trip Around the World baby quilt. I have a picture of it somewhere, but can't find it. You'll have to forgive me for not making an extra trip up and down the stairs.

My mom and sister picked out a fat quarter for each of my children (pink, of course, for the Assistant, red for the Screamer, and a cream and blue leaf for Q). They will be fun to make something special from.

There's been no quilting this week, although I've thought about it. A new Connecting Threads magazine came, and although my experience with their fabric was disappointing and I've found their thread quality to range widely from pitiful to excellent, I do enjoy looking at the projects for ideas. It may be a while before I finish anything else. The numbers below should be pretty accurate, but I can' remember exactly how much I used on the baby quilt, so until next week, this is where I stand.

IN this week: 3/4 yard
IN YTD: 84 yards

OUT this week: 5 yards
OUT YTD: 101 1/4 yards

YTD total: 17 1/4 yards OUT

Presenting Q!

Q was born at 2:38 pm, weighing in at 8 lbs 5.8 oz. I need to go rest, but am home from the hospital (no stitches, yeah!).

Here is a picture of the proud daddy, Assistant, and the jealous and insanely tired Screamer, who does not know what to do with this baby taking the attention and Mommy!

I will write more later, but need to go rest. Everything is going well.

Baby Q

In less than an hour, I will be leaving for the hospital to be induced. Baby Q is causing too much pain and no labor, so it's time to convince him. I'm not sure how fast I'll get back to the computer and to quilting in the coming days, so if it's quiet, you know why!

I'm sure the Assistant won't let me go too long as the play kitchen is upstairs, but don't hold your breath!

Stash Report Week #14

Edited to add: No baby as of Saturday night!

Since I might be in labor, I'm going to write my stash report on Friday. I don't know who took this picture, but apparently the Assistant didn't want her picture taken. I've banned her (and DH) from taking pictures of me until the baby's born, so I understand!

This week, I had some finishes (hooray!) First, there were two bibs made from "Petite Pizazz," a book Karol-Ann sent me when she was cleaning house. I altered the pattern a bit, but enjoyed having a pattern and some guidelines on what to d0. (1/2 yard)

My MiL sent some money for me to buy a new Easter dress. Since I'll be nursing, I decided to buy a nursing top and make my own skirt. Of course, that involved buying fabric (3 yards for me, 1 yard for the Assistant), but I already finished the skirt so it's ready for Easter (if I'm not in the hospital!). (2 1/2 yards out)

Then there are 6 placemats I've been working on for a friend who had a baby about 6 months ago, and I never got around to giving her a gift. That would probably be a result of throwing up regularly at 3 months of pregnancy. She visited with her family last week and commented on the placemats we use at our house, and how she should make some. I thought, hey, I can make some for her eventually. I'm glad they're done (3 1/2 yards out).

Finally, I finished a lap quilt for a friend who is the Assistant's godfather. He is getting married in July. There is NO WAY I'll finish a queen-sized quilt by then, so I made a lap quilt. I love the colors and fabric, but I used most of them up in this quilt (it's similar to the baby quilt I made a month or so ago). (5 1/2 yards out)

I also finished up 2 spools of thread (they were partials), to bring my total to 18 use for the year. That does include some spools of thread given away, including 5 spools I gave to my sister yesterday as an early birthday present with my old Singer sewing machine.

I am loving the walking foot on my new machine and am seeing how far I can get another baby quilt before I say to DH, "I think it's time to go to the hospital." Of course, it could still be early labor for a long time. I'm just going to try to make it through the next couple kicks and contractions.

IN this week: 4 yards
IN YTD: 83 1/4 yards

OUT this week: 12 yards
OUT YTD: 96 1/4 yards

YTD total: 13 yards OUT

Baby Updates

or lack thereof. No baby yet. I will be induced Tuesday if he doesn't come this weekend.

August Block Count

I thought I wrote this, but it seems to be lost somewhere or I never wrote it at all… August was a quiet block month, with only 42 16-patch...
