The temperatures and heat indexes this week have been insane, which makes all garden chores borderline insanity. Inside, I’ve been working through more insanity in my Garden Mosaic blocks. Whew!
We have an abundance of onions, garlic, tomatoes, squash, and peppers to keep me busy with preserving. It’s lovely that my oldest can harvest for me, so I can stay busy inside. Then I actually have energy for sewing as well.
The Garden Mosaic blocks are done for another month. I only need 230 or so blocks more, so the end is in sight! I suspect there will be far more blues than any other color, as my 2” blues take up almost half of the box. I will have fun sorting out how to layout the blocks in a few more months.
I almost have half the blocks done for my Irish chain blocks. I fell a little behind this week since our ridiculous heat sucked the energy out of me, but I may be able to catch up today.
My final sewing work this week centered around the 16-patch blocks. I finally sewed them all into strips of four blocks, so now it’s time to make bigger chunks of eight, and then I’ll get to make rows. I love when quilts “magically” appear at this stage. (I may not be done... I think I need more blocks to make it king-sized. Oh, well.)

My heart goes out to you folks suffering under the miserable heat dome. We’re hot here too, but it’s the normal, dry July heat in the Salt Lake Valley. Like you, I’ve been preserving. For us it’s apricots. We’re just finishing up harvesting and sharing the lettuce, and we have carrots for eating and sharing. But mostly they can stay in the ground until the fall. The spaghetti squash is ripening now too. When we’re done with the apricots after next week, I’ll move on to processing tomatoes and peppers.

this is going to be a wonderful quilt. I wish I was harvesting this year but I have had rotten luck with gardening the last couple of years - the bugs are just awful - I went ahead and pulled all my tomato plants out as the green caterpillars just have overwhelmed me this year. I think I will take a break from trying to garden next year and maybe just do a couple plants on the deck

The heat will such the energy right out of you. Glad you've got some good garden help this year. Good luck with all your projects, seems like you are moving right along with the current set.

I didn't know you were working on Garden Mosaic. Guess I haven't visited in awhile. I made one and love it. It uses up so many scraps.
I hear you on the heat and gardening. We don't have tomatoes and peppers yet but hope we do soon. All my kids are grown so may have to invite over grandkids to do my harvesting.
Our weather has turned cooler for us today and hopefully for you as well. You are making great progress on all of your quilts!
