Greens, the End

Barely!  Whew!

I thought I certainly would end the week with nothing to show, but this afternoon, after some serious sweating, weeding, and barn-tidying, I'm pleased with the eight green Carrie Nation blocks.  Obviously they aren't in a row yet, but since my yellow stash is rather anemic, I shouldn't have any trouble sewing them together in June.

Besides, June won't include a wedding or wedding sewing, end of school nuttiness, or any other of the things that were giant (but happy) time-sucks in May.  The garden is planted, so now weeding and harvesting are on the docket.

I'm looking forward to yellows next month!  Check out the other green scrappiness this Saturday.

HSTeria Quilt Along

Whew!  I wanted to post last week but couldn't drag myself into the computer in between all the other crazy events of the week and weekend.

Now, on this side of the craziness, I still find myself with too much to do and not enough time, but I'm trying!

I was able to complete the 96 needed apple red HST for the tree skirt, and have started cutting the maroon ones.  At least everything to date is pressed!

Tell It To the Stars: Month 5

Finished early in the month, these blocks languished for a blog post because I have been, alternately, so busy and so tired!

I am still loving the blocks, chosen color combo, and a small monthly task to keep up!  At the end of the year, I'm going to be so happy with the number of tops I get finished!

You can still join us in this lovely pattern by Judy Laquidara.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge: Green Sampler Blocks

What a week is has been!  This is a good thing, as today my baby brother marries a lovely woman, and the girls finished school on Thursday.

Between the cleaning for house guests, farm duties, and wedding sewing, I did manage to eke out one more sampler block.  I have no plans for layout at this time, but wanted to see everything on the wall together for a while.
I'm liking how this quilt is shaping up, although it will definitely look better when we work in some more warm colors!

(Ooh, and the sonogram results: another girl!  We'll call her G here, I suppose.)

Growing Row by Row

I've added two more rows to my row quilt for Bear Cub.  He's pretty happy with it so far!  I'll be adding yellow, orange, brown, red, and black/grey, I think, and then something for spacers in between.  That should be plenty big for a full size quilt.

In the meantime, I've been piecing some of Angela's sampler blocks (and just found one that JoJo ran away with... that boy).  I won't make much progress next week, however, as it's time to gear up for company and a wedding!  My youngest brother is getting married next Saturday!

Check out what is sure to be a plethora of green inspiration!

HSTeria Quilt Along

It took me a few weeks to find the right project in order to jump on board, but now I'm slowly making a few hundred half-square triangles for my younger sister's tree skirt!

I'll be making Star and Crown blocks, and it could be made using flying geese units, I've decided to stick with HST so I can mix up the red fabrics as desired.  The entire quilt will be cream and reds!

Thanks, Vicki, for the quilt along!  (And a picture of one of my favorite irises!)

Green Inside and Out

This has been a very green week!  Outside, I've been attempting to catch up on planting, weeding, and watering.  We have hoped and prayed for rain, but with less than 2" since January 1, it is a struggle to keep things alive.  Still, since I water regularly, I have some lovely asparagus and strawberries growing.

raspberries!
Inside, I've been stitching up green spools for my scrappy row quilt.  They're all made but not yet ironed or sewn together.  Still, since most of my "feeling good" time is spent outside, simply getting the blocks made is definitely something about which to be pleased.  Check out all the other fabulous greens that are part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!

May Goals

In April, I

1.  Finished step four of a Tell It to the Stars
2.  Worked up plenty of purple scraps
3.  Failed spectacularly to make progress on the DWR quilt
4.  Finished the wedding clothes for my family
5.  Finished the last teacher quilt for the school year.

Next up, for May,
1.  One vest and maybe two dresses for the wedding.
2.  Tell It to the Stars step #5
3.  Oodles of green scraps
4.  DWR progress
5.  My Michael Miller challenge quilt

And lots and lots of gardening and rest.

Rainbow Connection

Yay for a green month!  Be sure to check out oodles of green as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

I cut and cut and cut, in between lounging and feeling lousy.  Sunday is my oldest daughter's first communion, and in between house guests and hosting a party, I'm been wearing myself out cleaning.  Of course, wearing myself out at 16 weeks pregnant is a dumb thing to do, hence lots of lounging.
I was startled to pull out all my green scraps and find... so little!  Last year, I finished, top and backing, a complete quilt from my green scraps.  I even pieced scraps together to make the green squares for the half square triangles (I thought I was a little mad at one point, but, oh, how I love that quilt in completion!).  So this year, pickings are a little slim, even after cutting strips from all my fabrics.

I cut 13 blocks for my row quilt, 7 (or 8?) blocks for Angela's sampler, and 8 Carrie Nation blocks.  I'm hoping to eke out 12 more blocks for the row quilt, this time in darker greens instead of lime greens, and since the pattern is spools, I just may be able to do it.

There is a vest (and maybe two more dresses) to finish before the wedding, but otherwise this will be a pretty low-key month.

Second Teacher Quilt!

I chose a pattern from "Quick and Easy Scrap Quilts" by Patricia Wilens.  Since I didn't need quite such a large quilt, I opted to leave off borders.
And it does lay flat in reality, but I had it thrown over the drying rack so dried with a little warping.
I happily finished this entire quilt from stash, including backing.  Seeing it as a whole, I am glad the greens blend and the yellow and muslin are not too stark in contrast.  I'm happy with it!

I would like to learn some new FMQ designs, as I'm bored with loops and meandering.

August Block Count

I thought I wrote this, but it seems to be lost somewhere or I never wrote it at all… August was a quiet block month, with only 42 16-patch...
